Notice of Public Hearing - Water

The City of Highland Park will hold a public hearing on proposed water plant improvement projects for the purpose of receiving comments from interested persons.

The meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. on April 21, 2010 at the City of Highland Park City Hall, 12050 Woodward Avenue,
Highland Park, MI 48203.

The purpose of the proposed project is to update aging equipment at the water treatment plant, increase plant reliability
and improve water quality.

Project construction will involve replacement of pumps, valves, controls and electrical equipment within the plant and the raw water pumping station.  Improvements and upgrades will be made to the following treatment plant components: lake intake pump station, raw water reservoir, clarifier building, filter building and clearwell, high service pump building and grounds and security.  These improvements are designed to maintain the capacity of the plant to meet current demands and to maximize operating efficiency.

No long term environmental impacts to service are anticipated as a result of the construction.  Short term impacts resulting from routine construction activities such as noise, dust and traffic are anticipated during construction.  The Plant will continue to operate and to produce drinking water for the City during construction.  No private property will be involved in the construction of the plant improvements.

The estimated cost to users for the proposed projects is $10,135,000.  The financing of the project is intended to be through a DWRF low interest loan, to be paid for by water rate revenues and taxes.

Copies of the documents detailing the proposed project are available for inspection starting Monday, March 22, 2010 at the following location:

City Hall
